Weekly collection, with limits
The Town’s contractor, Waste Management, collects garbage and household food waste every week. Each household, suites included, gets one supplied container for each, and the limit is 40 kg per container per week. Extra-bag decals are sold at Town Hall, and condominiums and co-ops aren’t served by the food waste program.
No bulky-item pickup shows up on the Town’s pages. That leaves furniture, mattresses, appliances and electronics for Hartland, a charity that accepts them, or a clean-out. The CRD’s weekend Beyond the Curb hubs in Colwood and Langford also take electronics, household batteries and light bulbs, 9am to 4pm as of November 2026.
Mattresses, yard waste and the Canteen Road station
Residents with proof of residency can take yard and garden waste to the shared station at 605 Canteen Road, open Tuesday to Sunday 8am to 5pm, as of November 2026, at no charge for View Royal and Esquimalt households. It doesn’t take soil, rock, concrete, stumps, pallets, lumber or plywood.
Mattresses are the harder item. At Hartland a mattress is charged by weight, $160 per tonne plus a $10 bin fee as of November 2026, and in December 2025 the CRD Board said BC’s recycling regulation update left mattresses out and that the CRD subsidizes the high cost of processing them. Salvation Army, Beacon and St. Vincent de Paul don’t take mattresses, and Habitat for Humanity takes them only from corporate donors.
Donations and garage-sale tickets
- Salvation Army Thrift Store, 305 Island Highway: the donor centre is open Monday to Saturday 9am to 8pm and Sunday 10am to 6pm, as of November 2026. Its donation rules rule out furniture and mattresses.
- Beacon Community Services: for now, its furniture form offers no pickup from View Royal.
- Habitat for Humanity: its pickup requests cover Greater Victoria, and the Westshore ReStore is at 849 Orono Avenue in Langford.
View Royal’s Municipal Ticket Information Bylaw lists tickets for holding more than three garage sales a year without a business licence and for a garage sale that runs longer than three consecutive days; the amount shown for the second is $100, as of November 2026. The Sign Bylaw text we read doesn’t mention garage sales.
