Estate sales and clean-outs in Langford.

Langford has the lowest share of residents 65 or older of any community we serve (13.7%), and households hire private companies for garbage because Langford doesn’t provide residential collection. We run estate sales, online auctions, downsizing, clean-outs and moving plans across Langford. A free walkthrough comes first.

How we help in Langford

Private garbage service, public drop-offs

Residential waste disposal isn’t a municipal service in Langford, so households use private companies, from a list the CRD publishes. The CRD runs curbside recycling, and Langford’s page says blue bags can be picked up at GFL Environmental’s Langford depot.

The CRD’s Beyond the Curb hub at the Westhills Bus Exchange, near the YMCA-YWCA Westhills, is open Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 4pm, as of November 2026. Its list covers electronics, household batteries, light bulbs, foam packaging, flexible plastics, cardboard, paper, mixed containers and glass. For furniture, mattresses and wood the destination is Hartland, where loads must be covered and secured, and an uncovered or unsecured one is charged double or fined.

Donating in Langford and nearby

  • Habitat for Humanity Westshore ReStore, 849 Orono Avenue: donation drop-off Monday to Saturday 9:30am to 5pm and Sunday 11am to 5pm, as of November 2026. The receiving team has the final say on every item, and the criteria include working washers, dryers, fridges and microwaves.
  • St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP), 2784 Claude Road: the Langford thrift store is open Monday to Saturday 9:30am to 5pm and takes donations from 9:30am to 4pm, as of November 2026. It wants tools, camping gear, linens, clothing, books and household goods, and doesn’t resell non-working electronics or appliances.
  • Salvation Army Thrift Store: furniture, beds and mattresses are on its not-accepted list, and it doesn’t pick up. Its thriftstore.ca page and the Salvation Army’s 2024 news name different Langford addresses, so confirm the current one before you go.

Beacon Community Services’ furniture pickup form excludes Langford for now.

Garage sales under Langford’s zoning bylaw

Langford’s Zoning Bylaw No. 300 allows garage sales only on lots with a one-family dwelling, a two-family dwelling or a townhouse. No residential property can be used for a garage sale more than three times in a twelve-month period, and no single sale can run more than two consecutive days.

The section we read covers garage sales and doesn’t mention estate sales, so ask Langford how the limits apply to yours. A staffed estate sale and an online auction are different jobs, and the walkthrough is where we work out which one fits the house.

Questions from Langford

Does Langford collect garbage?

Not as a municipal service. Households arrange garbage collection with a private company, and the CRD publishes a list of them. The CRD itself runs curbside recycling. Furniture, mattresses and wood can go to Hartland, where loads must be covered and secured, or leave with a clean-out. What can be sold is sold, what can be used is donated, and we clear the rest.

Where can I take electronics and recycling in Langford?

The Beyond the Curb hub at the Westhills Bus Exchange accepts electronics, household batteries, light bulbs, foam packaging, flexible plastics, cardboard, paper and glass every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 4pm (as of November 2026). TVs and computers are also free at Hartland. Furniture and mattresses aren’t on the hub’s list.

Can I hold a garage sale or estate sale in Langford?

Langford’s zoning bylaw allows garage sales only on lots with a one-family dwelling, a two-family dwelling or a townhouse, no more than three times in twelve months, and for no more than two consecutive days. It doesn’t mention estate sales, so ask Langford how it applies to yours. An online auction skips in-house sale days.

What does it cost?

It depends on the house and what’s in it. After the free walkthrough you get a written estimate with every cost laid out, before you sign anything, and there’s no obligation.
