Estate sales and downsizing in Colwood.
Colwood is home to one of the CRD’s three Beyond the Curb hubs, at the Colwood Exchange Park and Ride, but the City doesn’t provide garbage collection: each household chooses a private provider. We handle estate sales, online auctions and downsizing in Colwood, and clear what’s left after selling and donating. It all starts with a free walkthrough.

Garbage in Colwood is a private matter
Colwood doesn’t provide garbage collection, so residents choose a private provider; the CRD publishes a list of them and runs curbside recycling. The City’s page says it sought resident input in 2026 on options for City waste collection. It also lists a branch drop-off, free for Colwood residents on the first and third Saturday of every month, as of November 2026.
Foam packaging, flexible plastics, household batteries, electronics and light bulbs can go to the Beyond the Curb hub at the Colwood Exchange Park and Ride, at Island Highway and Ocean Boulevard, along with cardboard, paper, containers and glass. Weekend hours are 9am to 4pm, as of November 2026.
The City’s page also lists two places for waste and recycling drop-off: Hartland, and a GFL recycling and waste drop-off in Langford, so confirm GFL’s fees and accepted items before you go. Hartland is the region’s only landfill, open weekdays 9am to 5pm and Saturdays 7am to 5pm, and the CRD lists its busiest times as weekday mornings from 9am to noon and Saturdays from 11am to 2pm, as of November 2026.
Donations from Colwood homes
- Habitat for Humanity’s Westshore ReStore (849 Orono Avenue, Langford): complete kitchens, large furniture and major appliances can be booked for pickup across Greater Victoria, with a week’s notice and a $50 truck fee, as of November 2026. Staff look over the items when they arrive and can decline them.
- Salvation Army Thrift Store: the View Royal donor centre, 305 Island Highway, accepts housewares, clothing and books, not furniture or mattresses.
- St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP), 2784 Claude Road in Langford: its list of items it can’t resell includes large furniture, mattresses and paint.
- Beacon Community Services: its furniture pickup form excludes Colwood for now.
Acceptance is decided on arrival, so selling comes first, then donating what’s useful, then clearing what’s left.
Questions from Colwood
Who collects garbage in Colwood?
Colwood doesn’t provide garbage collection, so households choose a private provider from the list the CRD publishes. The CRD runs curbside recycling. Furniture, mattresses and appliances can go to the Hartland depot, or we can clear them in a clean-out after selling and donating what we can.
Does Beacon pick up furniture in Colwood?
Not for now. Beacon’s furniture pickup form says there is no pickup from Colwood, View Royal, Esquimalt, Langford or Sooke. Habitat for Humanity’s Westshore ReStore in Langford takes donation drop-offs, and its pickup covers Greater Victoria for a $50 truck fee (as of November 2026). Either may decline an item, so selling and donating come before clearing.
Can I hold an estate sale in Colwood?
We run estate sales across Colwood. Sign and garage sale rules are the City’s to set, so check them with the City before you put up a sale sign. For a sale without buyers walking through the house, an online auction holds the bidding online and supervises each pickup, and a contents buyout means no sale days.
What does it cost?
It depends on the house and what’s in it. After the free walkthrough you get a written estimate with every cost laid out, before you sign anything, and there’s no obligation.
