Garbage, green waste and Littlewood Road
The District doesn’t provide garbage service. Residents contract a private hauler, or take their own garbage to Hartland. Blue box recycling comes from the CRD through GFL, with replacement boxes at the municipal hall, 1620 Mills Road.
The Green Waste Facility at 10180 Littlewood Road is open 8am to noon on select Thursdays and most Saturdays, following the District’s calendar. It charges $7 per car and $15 per pickup or utility trailer, cash or cheque only, as of November 2026. Wood waste isn’t allowed, and contractors need proof the waste came from a North Saanich property.
Depots and donations for North Saanich homes
- Hartland and Return-It: the District’s page lists Hartland and the Sidney Return-It depot, #5-10025 Galaran Road, which opens Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30am to 4:30pm (as of November 2026).
- Beacon Community Services names a donation depot in Brentwood Bay (7105 West Saanich Road) and a Sidney shop at 9760 Fourth Street as donation sites, and its furniture pickup form doesn’t exclude North Saanich.
- St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP), 9839 Fifth Street in Sidney: damaged, broken or heavily worn items, and non-working electronics or appliances, are on its list of things it can’t resell, and it asks for small furniture rather than large pieces.
Garage sale signs in North Saanich
North Saanich’s Sign Bylaw No. 1489 (2020), section 3.2(n), exempts garage sale signs from the permit requirement unless they are displayed more than two days before the sale or more than one day after it. Section 3.3 bars signs on any highway or municipal property, with exceptions for traffic direction signs and election signs. Ask the District whether a sign for an estate sale falls under the garage sale exemption.
If you would rather not put signs out at all, an online auction brings in local bidders without sale days in the house.
