Estate sales and clean-outs in Esquimalt.

Nearly four in ten Esquimalt households (38.8%) are one person, and each single-family home, suite or business gets one 121-litre garbage bin every second week. We run estate sales, downsizing and clean-outs across Esquimalt, and handle what the Township’s bins can’t take. Each job begins with a free walkthrough.

How we help in Esquimalt

Esquimalt’s bins and what’s left over

The Township collects garbage and kitchen scraps every second week: one 121-litre garbage bin and one kitchen scraps bin per two-week period for each single-family home, suite and business. More garbage takes an extra Township regulation bin ($95 from Municipal Hall, 1229 Esquimalt Road) plus extra-garbage stickers, four for $8, as of November 2026.

Curbside collection doesn’t take rocks, stumps, large metal objects, anything that won’t fit the bins, construction waste including wood, hazardous waste or tires. The Township’s pages describe no bulky-item pickup, so furniture, mattresses and appliances need a trip to Hartland or a charity, or a clean-out to carry them away.

Yard waste, Hartland and wooden furniture

  • Yard and Garden Transfer Station, 605 Canteen Road: Esquimalt and View Royal residents with proof of residency pay nothing, Tuesday to Sunday 8am to 5pm, closed on statutory holidays, as of November 2026. The Township sends non-resident owners and commercial haulers to Ellice Recycle, a fee-based option.
  • Hartland depot, #1 Hartland Avenue: the CRD classes wooden furniture and cupboards as treated wood, which is banned from garbage and charged $110 per tonne plus the $10 bin fee, as of November 2026. Its wood factsheet keeps metal hardware such as hinges, door knobs, pull handles and drawer slides out of that stream, and says a load with comingled or banned materials can be fined up to $500.
  • Ellice Recycle, 524 David Street: listed by the Township as a place that takes garbage and recycling for a fee. Confirm its hours and what it accepts before you go.
  • Return-It, Unit 4, 765 Vanalman Avenue: electronics and small appliances. Its page asks you to phone for hours.

Donations and garage-sale rules

Beacon is not a pickup option for now: its furniture form says there is no pickup from Esquimalt. Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore takes pickup requests online for Greater Victoria, with a non-refundable $50 truck fee as of November 2026, and staff can decline items once they see them. The Salvation Army donor centres at 305 Island Highway in View Royal and on Cedar Hill X Road accept household goods, with furniture and mattresses excluded, and WIN’s Home Shop at 1803 Cook Street takes furniture by drop-off.

Garage sales have their own limits here. Esquimalt’s Business Licence and Regulation Bylaw says an occupier who holds more than three garage sales in a calendar year needs a business licence, which the Township lists at $50 as of November 2026, and each sale can run no more than three consecutive days. The Sign Regulation Bylaw prohibits signs it doesn’t expressly permit, names portable and third-party signs as prohibited, and doesn’t list garage sale signs among its exemptions.

The bylaws we read don’t mention estate sales, so ask the Township how they apply to yours. An online auction runs its bidding online, so there are no sale days in the house.

Questions from Esquimalt

Does Esquimalt pick up bulky items?

The Township’s pages describe no bulky-item pickup. The service is one 121-litre garbage bin and one kitchen scraps bin every second week, and extra garbage needs an extra bin at $95 plus stickers, four for $8 (as of November 2026). Furniture, mattresses and appliances can go to Hartland or a charity that accepts them, or leave with a clean-out.

Can I hold a garage sale or estate sale in Esquimalt?

Esquimalt’s Business Licence and Regulation Bylaw requires a business licence for more than three garage sales in a calendar year and limits each sale to three consecutive days. The Sign Regulation Bylaw prohibits signs it doesn’t expressly permit, including portable and third-party signs, and doesn’t list garage sale signs. Ask the Township before putting up a sale sign.

Will Beacon pick up furniture from my Esquimalt house?

Not for now. Beacon’s furniture pickup form lists Esquimalt, View Royal, Colwood, Langford and Sooke as places it doesn’t pick up from. Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore covers Greater Victoria for a $50 truck fee booked a week ahead (as of November 2026), and staff may decline items. Every charity decides what it accepts, so we sell and donate first and clear only what’s left.

What does it cost?

It depends on the house and what’s in it. After the free walkthrough you get a written estimate with every cost laid out, before you sign anything, and there’s no obligation.
