Estate sales and clean-outs in Metchosin.
Most Metchosin households (78.2%) live in single-detached houses, and the District doesn’t offer garbage collection: residents and businesses arrange private service. Estate sales, online auctions, downsizing and full clean-outs are what we do in Metchosin, selling and donating first and clearing the rest. Each job starts with a free walkthrough of the house.

Garbage and drop-off in Metchosin
The District doesn’t offer garbage collection, so residents and businesses arrange private service. Blue box recycling is a CRD service run by GFL. The District’s page lists a Pacific Mobile Depot at Belmont Secondary on the second Saturday of each month, for a fee, and three places that take kitchen scraps for a possible charge: Alpine Disposal and Recycling in Langford, and A&P Disposal and Recycling and Idlemore Recycle Centre in Sooke (as of November 2026).
At Hartland there is no separate rate for a mixed load. Wooden furniture has to arrive separated from garbage, and the CRD can fine a load that arrives comingled. Electronics and household batteries can go to the Beyond the Curb hubs in Colwood and Langford, open Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 4pm (as of November 2026).
Donations and sale signs
On the Westshore, the Habitat for Humanity Westshore ReStore, 849 Orono Avenue in Langford, lists cabinets, building supplies and tools alongside furniture and electric appliances. The Salvation Army Thrift Store’s list excludes furniture and mattresses, and the St. Vincent de Paul store at 2784 Claude Road wants small furniture, not large pieces. Acceptance is decided by each organisation when the items arrive.
We found no garage-sale clause in Metchosin’s Land Use Bylaw. Signs fall under its section 8, and the District has a separate sign regulations page, so read both before you put a sign up.
Questions from Metchosin
Who collects garbage in Metchosin?
The District doesn’t offer garbage collection, so residents and businesses arrange private service. Blue box recycling is a CRD service run by GFL. A Pacific Mobile Depot sets up at Belmont Secondary on the second Saturday of each month for a fee, as of November 2026. We clear what’s left of a house after we sell and donate.
Can I hold a garage sale or estate sale in Metchosin?
We found no garage-sale clause in Metchosin’s Land Use Bylaw. Signs are governed by its section 8, and the District has a separate sign regulations page, so read both before putting a sign up. An online auction holds its bidding online and supervises each pickup, so no buyers wander through the house.
Where can I donate furniture from a Metchosin house?
The Westshore options include the Habitat for Humanity Westshore ReStore in Langford, which lists couches, chairs and tables among its furniture, the Salvation Army Thrift Store, which doesn’t take furniture or mattresses, and St. Vincent de Paul’s Langford store, which wants small furniture. Acceptance is each organisation’s call, so we sell and donate first.
What does it cost?
It depends on the house and what’s in it. After the free walkthrough you get a written estimate with every cost laid out, before you sign anything, and there’s no obligation.
